Hello, I’m Alisa
…and welcome to my artist website.
I grew up loving the works of Matisse, Picasso and Monet and remember the feeling of deep joy and aliveness their artworks would make me feel. Inspired by my deep love and respect for nature, my hope is to share and ignite this same joy and aliveness in you through my paintings.
My Story
I was born in London and grew up in London and the Surrey/Hampshire countryside.
I spent my childhood constantly drawing - from scribbling on my parents wallpaper to designing exhibitions in my bedroom.
I sold my first painting at age 17 years old at a school exhibition and another the following year.
I then went off to art school in London and New York.
My heart and soul always wanted to be an artist but i had the age old thought ‘but i don’t want to be a poor and struggling artist‘ and i therefore chose a career in UX design.
I have worked as a freelance UX designer since 2010 for companies such as Google, Virgin, Coca Cola, HSBC, and many tech startups.
Working as a UX designer also allowed me to work remotely and in 2015 I became a digital nomad. I had no permanent home, just a suitcase and my laptop and I worked while living in amazing places such as New Zealand, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria and Ireland.
I didn’t paint for 16 years and then…covid happened. During covid, i was helping my mum decorate one of her bedrooms. It was nothing exciting - just painting a bedroom wall with white Farrow and Ball paint, but…. the feeling of having a paintbrush in my hand again - WOW! The movement, the flow, the motion - something inside me came alive again.
I went and bought myself a bunch of acrylic paints and a white canvas. I went to Spain for three months and my suitcase was half clothes, half paints and the one canvas. I set myself a challenge - I have to paint this one canvas before I leave in 3 months.
After pushing through several mental blocks (you’re not good enough, no one is going to like these, this is a waste of time) I finally painted the canvas and showed it to a friend - she loved it! Next thing i knew it was framed and hanging in her interior design shop! A few weeks later I got a message saying the canvas had been sold!
The rest is history! I continue to travel with my paints in my suitcase. Inspired by the stunning nature I come across my aim to capture the deep joy I feel inside and to share this feeling with others through my pieces.
