Hello, I’m Alisa Rox

...and welcome to my artist website.

In 2015, a profound burnout and depression left me bedridden for 9 months, and it was in botanical gardens that I found both refuge and healing. Nature gave me peace and reignited my vitality.

This balance - the soothing embrace of nature and its ability to make us feel truly alive - drives my art.

Through my work, I want to inspire that same deep connection to nature that helped me heal. I want viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect - to feel both grounded and energised, wherever they are.

I want my pieces to serve as a window into nature, bringing its vibrant energy into any space. I've seen how art can bring daily joy and mindfulness, and I hope my work brings that same uplifting connection to nature for others.

More about me

  • I was born in London and grew up in London and the Surrey/Hampshire countryside.

I spent my childhood constantly drawing - from scribbling on my parents wallpaper to designing exhibitions in my bedroom.

I sold my first painting at age 17 years old at a school exhibition and another the following year.

I then went off to art school in London and New York.

My heart and soul always wanted to be an artist but i had the age old thought ‘but i don’t want to be a poor and struggling artist‘ and i therefore chose a career in UX design.

I have worked as a freelance UX designer since 2010 for companies such as Google, Virgin, Coca Cola, HSBC, and many tech startups.

In 2015 I suffered a major burnout and depression which left me in bed for 9 months. Nature, botanical gardens in particular where instrumental to my healing.

I needed to change my lifestyle. Working as a UX designer also allowed me to work remotely and in 2015 I became a digital nomad. I had no permanent home, just a suitcase and my laptop and I worked while living in amazing places such as New Zealand, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria and Ireland.

I didn’t paint for 16 years and then…covid happened. During covid, i was helping my mum decorate one of her bedrooms. It was nothing exciting - just painting a bedroom wall with white Farrow and Ball paint, but…. the feeling of having a paintbrush in my hand again - WOW! The movement, the flow, the motion - something inside me came alive again.

I went and bought myself a bunch of acrylic paints and a white canvas. I went to Spain for three months and my suitcase was half clothes, half paints and the one canvas. I set myself a challenge - I have to paint this one canvas before I leave in 3 months.

After pushing through several mental blocks (you’re not good enough, no one is going to like these, this is a waste of time) I finally painted the canvas and showed it to a friend - she loved it! Next thing i knew it was framed and hanging in her interior design shop! A few weeks later I got a message saying the canvas had been sold!

The rest is history! I continue to travel with my paints in my suitcase. Inspired by the stunning nature I come across my aim to capture the deep joy I feel inside and to share this feeling with others through my pieces.
